sum, sum, summer

summer ep is here, by jon foreman. i got it last night at midnight, and i've listened to it six times (according to itunes; and that's not even counting the times i've listened to it on my ipod this morning [which is still for sale, by the way])

i am a little sad that all four of his seasonal eps have been released, as now i have nothing to look forward to musically, in regards to good, wholesome music.

fall was the best; winter, not so much; spring is in the middle; and summer, an amazing finish.

quite possibly my favorite lyrics out of all four eps, 'instead of a show' really brings it home for me:
'I hate all your show and pretense, the hypocrisy of your praise, the hypocrisy of your festivals. I hate all your show. Away with your noisy hymns - I stomp on my ears when you're singing 'em; I hate all your show'

jon foreman really has a way of writing dark, yet true and honest lyrics. i don't know what it is, but he always knows how to drive his point in, with style and ease.

the second to last song, 'the house of God, forever', is a beautiful rendition of psalm 23, and jon is accompanied by a lovely lady who takes on the falsetto part of the verse/chorus.

closing, 'again' serves as a reminder that God will always be God, and that He is in charge, yesterday, today, and forever, amen.
