i surprised my dad with a Christmas present...

sovereignty?

i can tell you first hand that we as humans have or own will. often it is good, and sometimes we believe it is good. many times it is even in our best interest, and often we only think it is. there is One who knows and desires the very best for us; that is, and always will be His will for us.

i have come to understand that inasmuch as we all have things we desire, hope for, and sometimes even demand for ourselves and in our lives, the greatest miracle occurs when we embrace God's will for our lives.

it is at this point that we acknowledge that we are incapable of asking for something that is better than what He wants for us. it is a major step of growth that a person experiences - not unlike when the light of understand goes on in a child's head and he grasps that mom or dad actually does know a bit more than him.

this Sunday - December 27, 2009 - is the first year anniversary of my mother's passing. while she was going through her illness (cancer), and even against the doctor's prognosis, i remained 100% certain that God would grant me my prayer and request: that she would be cured to continue raising my siblings and me.

i knew without a doubt that God was big and strong enough to do this miracle for me. it is not to be as i had desired...but now i've come to realize that God is much bigger than what i'd imagined, big enough to be with my family and to help us-  not only overcome the greatest lost i have ever experienced, but thrive.

...

i know i have much learning and growing to do, but my confidence and faith is that His Word is never flawed, He will never deviate an iota from it and His promise holds true: He will never leave nor forsake me. i will not fear; i know where my help comes from. i am an over comer, because The Over Comer lives in me.

ramsey

so i wanted to do something cool and a bit different for my portfolio, so i did this shot of my friend, ramsey. i think it came out pretty sweet, and in all honesty, it's actually one of my best shots i've ever done, actually.

from when i started setting up the lights, to when i put the camera down, i think the ENTIRE shoot was only 8 minutes long.

this was taken about ten minutes after a football game, and for the entire game it was raining cats and dogs. finally, in the fourth quarter, it let up, thankfully.

as always, click to view it larger.

portfolio refresh

i need help picking 30 images for my portfolio, and getting rid of the rest.

so in the coming weeks i'll be doing some sort of poll and trying to figure out what to use, and what to keep out.

btw, i added some more images to my portfolio.

photo shoots

i've been doing quite a few photo shoots lately, as you can imagine if you've read any of my previous posts.

actually, i haven't posted anything about this, so i will now.
im currently in 6th gear (on a 5 gear engine), working over time and pumping out shoot after shoot after shoot after shoot in order to print my portfolio by the end of september, maybe even sooner.

RIGHT NOW, i have approximately  7-8 images that i am SUPER PROUD of. when im finished with this, i want to have 30+ images that i am super proud of.

i want every shoot to be better than the next.
so with that being said, here are some shoots i've done recently.

the last one is a re-edit of a previous picture i've done.
the second to last one, with the truck, was a LAST SECOND idea, and with no advance planning, we did it - i was pretty happy with how it came out.

the man in the suit is my friend aldo, and it is for a show called madmen, and he is trying to just walk on, and if the picture is good enough, he just might be used as an extra.

the last two are images i had been wanting to do for a while...sort of.

i actually wanted to do this image when i first started the shoot, but ended up being most happy with these images. the first one is of my brother, and i was really happy with how it came out.

the second one is of my friend samuel, and i thought it looked pretty sweet; while editing, i got the crazy slogan, and decided to stamp it on there.

and i have like three more shoots this week, and more next week.
